Braindrain and braingain
It is being talked about increasingly often: brain drain and brain gain. There is a growing awareness that action is needed to combat the continuous outflow of (young) Caribbean talent, especially to the European part of the Kingdom, while at the same time creating opportunities for attracting and retaining talent in the region.
But what can we do about this in concrete terms? That is the question the SEA Advisory Committee asked itself. Instead of traditional advice, the committee has drawn up a consideration in which possible measures are listed to limit brain drain and stimulate brain gain.
With this publication, the committee mainly wants to further stimulate the conversation about this important theme. The aim is to bring the parties involved together and jointly explore how the tide can be turned. One thing is clear: only targeted and coherent measures – and in close cooperation between stakeholders – can effective policies be developed.
The SEA Advisory Committee intends to collect the responses to this consideration and incorporate them into a future advice to the governments of the countries within the Kingdom.
